Implementation of Program

The course will last for 18 class hours, with 6-hour sessions scheduled on weekdays between 10.00 and 16.00, for three consecutive days, and conducted face to face. Lessons last 45 minutes, with five-minute breaks in between. Participants will be given a Certificate of Participation at the end of the course.

Course Objectives

To provide information on the operating principles of marine air conditioning and refrigeration systems of refeer containers, as well as their troubleshooting and maintanince.

Syllabus

Day 1-10.00-16.00 (6h)
• Introduction, Definition, Physical Concepts
• Fundamentals of refrigeration and operation of the vapor compression system
• Classification of refrigerant (CFC, HCFC and HFC) and their differences
• Reefer Container Components and Equipment
• Types of Air Conditioning Systems
• Carnot Cycle, Coefficient of Performance and Net Work Calculation
• Single Stage Vapor Compression Refrigeration Cycle
• Heat Load Calculations
• Need for a reefer container and types of refrigerated cargoes
• Types of reefer container (general, controlled atmosphere systems, maxtend regulated system, AFAM)

Day 2-10.00-16.00 (6h)
• Air flow diagram of a reefer container
• Refrigerated container control elements
• Refrigerated container cooling efficiency calculation
• Electrical circuit schematic and wiring diagrams reading of Carrier (69NT40), Thermoking (TK –MAGNUM), Daikin (LXE10E-A) and Startcool (SC – MCI40) reefer containers
• Compressors, evaporators, expansion valves and condensers used in refrigerated containers
• Pressure/temperature graph of a specific refrigerant and its importance in terms of troubleshooting

Day 3-10.00-16.00 (6h)
• Refrigerant charging and discharging in the reefer container
• Refrigerated container system operation
• Refrigerated container system alarm codes
• Cold checks before connecting the electrical power supply to the reefer container
• Pre-cruise checks
• Malfunctions, causes and solutions
