Implementation of Program

The training is planned for 2 days (16 lessons in total). The first day will consist of 8 lesson hours of theoretical training. The second day will consist of 4 lesson hours of theoretical training followed by 4 lesson hours of simulator practice.

Each lesson is 45 minutes long, with a 5-minute break between lessons. The theoretical training on the first day will be conducted in a classroom at the Main Campus of Piri Reis University. The practical training on the second day (the last 4 lesson hours) will be conducted face-to-face at the bridge simulator.

Course Objectives

To provide participants with the fundamental framework required to implement an effective navigational performance audit mechanism, with reference to the practices of OCIMF and TMSA 3 – Element 5,
To identify areas where a vessel’s bridge operations can be improved by introducing navigational assessment and audit methods, navigation procedures, the use of navigational equipment, and the bridge team’s situational awareness,
To conduct audits covering documentation, voyage planning, equipment checks, as well as real-time performance assessment of the bridge team.

Syllabus

Day 1 – Theoretical Training (8 Hours) | 09:00–16:45

* International Maritime Organization Codes, STCW Convention, International Safety Management Code requirements, and Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea within the framework of international legislation and standards
*Analysis of Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and its major components (soft skills approach and practical applications)
*Within the scope of Passage Planning and Execution; static and dynamic reporting based on the re-analysis of key screenshots in accordance with safe route planning and transit plan verification (ENC-based)
*Inspection of navigational equipment, and practical principles and guidelines for the efficient and effective use of bridge navigation aids such as ECDIS, GPS, ARPA, etc.

Day 2 – Theoretical Training & Simulator Practice (8 Hours) | 09:00–16:45

Theoretical Training (4 Hours)

*General overview of priority risk analysis and emergency procedures related to navigation safety
*Procedures and principles for conducting effective and efficient navigation inspections, reporting procedures, recording methods, and measurement/evaluation techniques

Simulator Practice (4 Hours)

*The knowledge and competencies acquired during the theoretical training will be practically reinforced through simulator practice, including daytime or nighttime passage through the Istanbul Strait or Çanakkale Strait (upon request).
